The 8th Rules of a Bjj Academy (Fight Club Rules Model)

Welcome to the Academy.

1st RULE: You do not talk about learning from YouTube.2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about learning from YouTube.
3rd RULE: If someone says "stop",goes limp, or taps out the fight is over.
4th RULE: Only two guys to a fight.
5th RULE: One fight at a time.
6th RULE: No shoes. Only flip flops.
7th RULE: Fights will go on as long as they have to.
8th RULE: If this is your first night at this Academy, you HAVE to fight.

Man, I see in this Academy the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. It's the ultimate tension and I see it squandered. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables - slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy s--t that we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war. Our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

Here the Fight Club's rules from the Movie.

Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club novel's author, is currently writing a sequel after 18th years.

Bjj Maslow Pyramide

Psycologist Abraham Harold Maslow (April 1, 1908 – June 8, 1970) in his paper “A Theory of Human Motivation” developed the idea of self-actualization and the hierarchy of human needs. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is represented by a pyramid consisting of five levels: the four lower levels are the “deficiency needs,” which are physiological and the top level representing “growth needs” that are associated with psychological needs. The lower the level, the more importance it is: deficiency needs must be met first. The higher needs or levels in this hierarchy can only be focused upon or achieved when the lower needs/levels in the pyramid are met. Once an individual has moved upwards to the next level, needs in the lower level will no longer be prioritized. For example, if you are struggling to manage to put food in your table or pay rent, the idea of having a functional relationship will not be crossing your mind anytime soon. This theory can expalain why Bjj players are totally addicted to the need of rolling.

Graduation day- Tunnel Cerimony

I've been training Bjj for 3 and a half years and today was one of my best day ever: I became a Blue... yes a Blue Belt!!... my Master , a Brazilian Black Belt, said I'm ready for it. Well, I was very happy and I trust him so I didn't pass through the "I'm not worthy" feelings that are usually part of fresh new graduated people. Anyway my happyness lasted few minutes: I had to go through what I hate most in Bjj: the traditional "human tunnel"! This is a Brasilian creation that Normally involves everyone in the team taking off their belts, forming into two rows, then 'whipping' the newly graded students as they run in the middle of the human tunnel. In the past promotion days I was able to skip it hiding myself into the gym lockers, but this time I had no chance but getting tons of bruises. I really hate it. I cannot understand the point of this pretty stupid initiation tradition. Can't wait the day it will be decleared illegal, I'm sure it will happen soon :).

Also one of the biggest name of the bjj scene agrees with me; check it out!
